This month’s theme was once again We Love Short-Shorts, focusing on shorter reads, and I could think of no better - nor more timely and appropriate - novella in my TBR list than the prequel to Courtney Milan’s Brothers Sinister series. There’s nothing more comforting to me than structure and purpose, therefore what better way to start my new year off on the right foot than to rejoin the TBR Challenge reading and reviews? But I am determined to pick myself up, dust myself off, and start all over again. So, now I feel like something akin to a somnambulant bear emerging from their hibernation cave. I spent most of the past year in a useless state of anxiety, disillusionment, and depression, only writing three posts over the course of the entire year. Between the major flooding disaster in my home state, Dreamspinner Press misappropriating authors’ royalties (wherein so many authors have still not been paid), political upheaval around the globe, and the implosion of the Romance Writers of America over the holidays, 2019 was not a good year. Where did 2019 go? It all flashed by in a blur of crisis, disaster, scandal, and anxiety.
